TAKE
BOMB THREATS SERIOUSLY |
Although most bomb threats are hoaxes aimed at causing disruption to the normal day to day routine of a complex, they must be taken seriously. The most common form of a threat is by telephone warning that a bomb has been placed in a building. Click here for the Bomb Threat Checklist |
GET
INFORMATION FROM THE CALLER |
The more information that you can obtain from the caller the better the threat can be assessed. Should you receive a bomb threat over the telephone try to remain calm, do not hang up, and ask the caller the following questions.
Remember do not hang up as by taking this action it could keep the line "open" even if the caller hangs up. |
REPORT
IT TO A SUPERVISOR |
Your supervisor should be informed of the threat as soon as possible. Unless you consider it absolutely necessary, do not alert other persons in the room as it could cause undue concern. |
FILL
OUT A BOMB THREAT CHECKLIST |
A Bomb Threat Checklist should be kept under your telephone. This is to be filled out on completion of the call as it may assist in revealing the identity of the caller. Pertinent points to remember about the call are:
|
IF
A BOMB IS FOUND |
If what appears to be a bomb is found, under no circumstances are you to touch it.
|
IF
DETONATION OCCURS |
Should detonation occur at any stage during a bomb threat evacuate the affected area immediately and implement the Emergency Evacuation Procedures. |
