Our Mission Statement

Our purpose is to deliver to the UNSW Community with preventative measures to enable efficient and effective response to any incident/emergency and enable a quick recovery to a normal state of balance, as well as provide advice & resources to minimise potential emerging risks; provide emergency planning and be a leader in the provision of emergency and first aid training, while we improve our business efficiency whilst strengthening the capability of our own people.

Our Objectives

Legislation and Compliance - Provide advice and information to ensure compliance in emergency management, first aid, and best practices in accordance with Australian Standards, Building Codes of Australia, OHS legislation/regulations, and DISPLAN arrangements within Australia which impact upon UNSW operations

Training and Education - Responsible for the development and delivery of education and training, development and maintenance of emergency management competency standards and curriculum, emergency management research, and for community education

Resources and tools - Research and acquire safety equipment, leading technologies, and other resources pertinent to the stakeholders in order to combat incidents and emergencies and be able to restore themselves back to normality

Emergency Risk Management - Be able to carry out emergency risk management assessments to business units to identify sources of risk, and be able to suggest control methods to either eliminate or minimise the impact of a hazard upon the community

Business Continuity & Planning - Provide information and efficient resources to assist in Faculties/Divisions and other business units of UNSW to be able to return to normality; or be able to continue with business with minimal disruption or impact upon day to day operations, academia and research
